You might remember our first article in this series where we highlighted Dan Sponholz! This time we want to share about another member of the Flite Test community, Mark Harrison!
Mark was submitted by his son, Joe. Here is the reason why he chose to submit his dad:
About 5 years ago I recieved a random message from my father. In it was a video of him building his first quad. From there, I was hooked. He decided that he wanted to build a group, and have it be of people who love flying wings and quads. He ended up getting more into wings (and then he sent me in your direction). I would cut out and build your frames, and he would put electronics on them. It seems daily now that everyone in our group is asking for his help with wings. If he can't help them with theirs, he gives one to them and never expects anything in return. He is a steward to our flight community and is always willing to offer a helping hand to any new or experienced pilot. Not only is he engaging those old and young alike to join the community, but he is doing it with a great attitude and a fun spirit.
FT: What is your favorite part of the hobby?
Mark: My true favorite part is building flying wings. The Flite Test Delta was my first delta wing. From there I have built the FT Arrow, FT Spear and quite a few other [of the] company’s wings.
FT: What do you do when you’re not flying?
Mark: When not flying I like to cook, watch history documentaries, and of course building. Work wise I am a graphic designer.
FT: How did you initially connect with Flite Test?
Mark: I started looking at Flite Test after a video I saw on FPV gear. From the website I built my first plane, the FT Trainer. From then on it was nonstop with building and flying.
FT: What is your favorite part of Flite Test?
Mark: I really enjoy reading the forums and articles. There is quite a bit of valuable information that is quite helpful.
FT: How have you experienced or seen Flite Test and the RC hobby positively impact you/the community around you?
Mark: I have shared my FT builds and personal builds at the park I fly at. Many are amazed at how well dollar store foam planes fly. A few times I have went back to the park and saw others flying the same FT planes. I have had families sit and watch for quite a while, and I even let them look through my FPV goggles. I also began a Facebook group for our local area that brings together others for weekend flying sessions. (Puget Sound Multirotor and FPV)
FT: How has Flite Test or the RC hobby impacted your relationship with your son?
Mark: My son and I have actually become closer. I introduced him to FT. We now see each other more often, on special occasions it is not uncommon for one of us to give the gift of an FT airplane to each other.
FT: What has been your favorite plane/multirotor to fly?
Mark: My favorite plane to fly is the FT F-22 and favorite multirotor would be the MB Epic 235.
FT: What has been your favorite plane/multirotor to build?
Mark: My favorite plane to build is the FT Bloody Baron. Not only is it a great flyer, but it has a unique look.
