FPV40 - Wing Design

by ProjectFlightDesign | August 16, 2013 | (7) Posted in Projects

My original design, the FPV40, a medium sized FPV plane that can carry a GoPro. PDF's available!

PDF's!: https://sites.google.com/site/projectflightd/

My inspiration for this rc plane was to make a medium sized FPV plane out of a single sheet of 20" x 30" foam board. It has 440 square inches of wing area, so it should be great for some basic FPV flying!

PDF's: Thanks to intensewalkera, check him out on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/user/intensewalkera

It has a 40 inch wingspan (tip to tip), 13 inch root chord, 8 inch tip chord (including 2 inches of elevon), and 14 inches of sweep. The KFM2 airfoil is at 50% wing chord and is made of 1/2 inch wall insulation foam board (pink foam).

Center of Gravity: 8.25 inches back from the front

Program expos on your transmitter! Ailerons at 30% and elevator at 40%

Weight, without the battery: 450 grams (with the motor and ESC)

Motor: RCHotDeals 2212-13 1000 kV ~ 50 gram motor
Prop: 10x5
ESC: 18A Volcano Exceed RC
Battery: 2500 mAh 11.1v 3S 25C
Servos: 9 gram T-Pro
Receiver: Spektrum AR6210

Nice info. Im considering a foamboard build of a motorless slope soaring wing. Do you think this design would serve as a good place to start? Could doubling up a couple pieces of foam board create enough thickness for an airfoil or is half inch thickness essential in your opinion? Thanks. Am a subscriber of yours on youtube.

I think this would be a bit big for slope soaring. Look either on projectflightdesign, rctestflight or my youtube for a plane called a mini zephyr. People have used that for slope soaring and it seems to work really nice. If you dont have access to a home depot or lowes for half inch foam, doubling up two pieces of foam would work also.

Hey, I built this plane a couple of months ago and i'm just now getting to where I can buy the electronics.. Would anyone have a setup with a Battery, ESC, and Motor all from hobbyking that would work? Or anywhere just with the links! Thanks!
