FPV groundstation case

Hey out there,
to the people who are just starting FPV, I wantet to show you my

fpv groundstation case!

I just got my fpv equipment and as it consists
of a lot sensible things I thougth I want a nice case around it all.
Also to make it easy portable to where i'm going to fly.

First i thought of a plastic box.
But then i went to my trusted hardware store.
There I saw and bought a "aluminium"-case for camera equipment.

It is verry nice for protection as it has some nice foam layering inside. Thin arround all surfaces and a thicker layer on the floor. Also it is filled with a thick pice that is pre cut to match it what ever you put in.

My first idear was to place the 7" screen and the video reciever into the cover.
I did this by screwing the screen to two pieces of wood and hot glued this wood to the cover.
The videoreciever is mounted with velcro to the cover to make it detachable if needed.

top left: Video reciever

top right: 7" screen

When adding the video reciever to the cover i thought of getting the antenna to the highest point. So i drilled a hole on the top left corner where i can put the antenna through and mount i to the reciever.

Then i also added a wooden hinge support and a quickmount

that fixes the cover open in the open position but can be folded into the box.

I learned that you need equal length of the arms and same distances from the anker points to the hinge of the box.
This keeps it foldable without interfeering with the case.

This makes the whole box mountable to the tripot.

On my box I fixed the quickmount with two screws through the wall.
I added some wood on the inside beneath the foam.
Now wind load should not be a problem.

Finayl i did some cutouts to the thick filling foam to added the other components.

I added my recorder and all its cables (video in and out). The cables are put beneath the recorder. I also added some holes for the plugs.

Then there is also a compartment for the powerpack(front left)

I also cuttet some place to put the antennas.

The antenna for the base station has a cover for the powerplug of the system so i wont forget to first mount the antenna bevor powering up.

A low voltage alarm led warns me when power of the base is getting low.

Now its time for me to try out my basestation for the first time....
sadly weather is getting worse at the moment and it is raining a lot.

Komponents i used:

  • Ready Made RC  fpv beginner set
  • a Wiesent Foto case
  • some wood to make the hinge and the quickmount
  • hotglue
  • some screews
  • some tape (single and double sided)

Hope you like it...
please give me feedback!

I have done something similar , and believe for a noob it is better to use a screen, and then try goggles later.

Nice job!! Thanks for the great idea. I see you have a windshield wiper handy for foul weather use. ;-)
