FPV Faceoff - PROJECT

Zeiss was kind enough to let us try three pairs of their cinemizer OLED glasses.

David's platform of choice, the Penguin aka "Dirty Walrus" by Ready Made RC.

He chose to remove the hood becuase of an unnecessary amount of distortion cause by the curvature of the plastic.

David is also implementing the GoPro Black 3+ with an 300mW transmitter.

Chad choose to fly the Talon by FPV Model, but with a little added color.

Near the nose we can see the Eagle Tree Power Panel to accompany the Eagle Tree OSD System.

Electronics won't even know what claustrophobia is inside this airframe.

The clip holding the GoPro White is molded from Instamorph, one of Chad's personal favorites.

We know the Kraken can lift pretty much anything, so Josh strapped 4 camera onto it.

The front-most camera sat on a brushless gimbal system from Hobby King.

For those foam-board haters, you can't get more rigid than that.

Thanks again to Zeiss for letting us check out the glasses, and to you for watching!

Let us hear what you have to say! Chat it up in the fourms!

Great episode! I wish you could have gone into a comparison of the Fat Sharks and the Cinemizers, though. It's always good to see the Kraken:)

I also like that idea. It would be cool to compare a lot of video glasses too.

I want to build a KRAKEN, if you could post at least the plans?
thanks

Sounded like the goggles displayed blue-screen when you lost signal, correct? (Not sure why I care, as $800 goggles are out of my budget, but a man can dream!)

I would like to see the three of you do some fpv formation aerobatic maneuvers. I think it would take three similarly equipped planes with the same performance. It could be done.

Nice episode!
Just a small hint: the german pronounce of the name "Zeiss" is not as soft as Josh Bixler did. Our language is a little harder at this point. Josh please try to speak it more like "Tseits". The "ts" is near the same as you would say it in "cats".

It is so nice to hear you speaking in other languages, Oh by the way Chats "Hallo" was very good!

I second the secondment!

Or maybe "smaller recording cameras" as topic, and throw in an 808 #16 wide-angle too (weight ratio: 1 GoPro ~= 2 Mobius ~= 4 808:s)

I second the second of the secondment or whatever! It would be a great episode- especially seeing all the cameras out there.

I see those goggles claim 3d capability. How about a 3D FPV setup? Or would getting two transmitters on one aircraft not work so well? Probably better on a quad copter where you're flying closer to stuff like trees.

@Josh B. Hi Josh is that roll motor on the gimbal modified ? I am current try to plan the installation of that gimbal on a quad, but mounted similar to the way you have it on that wing model (rather than mount it hanging down) as is the original design, I know you guys are really busy but if you get the chance, would it be possible to give a short description on how you mounted it ? ( i have looked at the pictures but need a little more detail).
Thanks regards Mordechai.

Yes pretty please with sugar on top, Mr Bixler. Please make some Kraken plans, Pleeeeease. I am looking for a bigger flying wing and I am a fellow frugal flyer. Can't afford a big production wing. ;)
Also I'd like to see more of the footage from the gimbaled mount.

I have used the Zeiss glasses a few times and find them so uncomfortable its crazy. They also have a weird so of distortion around the edges, at first I though it was my camera but have tried others since and the same problem. Poor considering the price and reputation of Zeiss, who make amazing lenses.

Challenge for you guys: and FPV land sea and air platform!? One craft for all occasions?

MDOwn, As someone who has the Cinemizers and uses them for FPV with my HERO 2 I have never experienced any kind of video distortion around the edges. If anything using a buddies Fatsharks at the field I get distortion with those. Im thinking the diopter knobs, the ones by each eye that allows you to focus the image to your optics was not properly accomplished by you.

Im sorry you had a bad experiance, I love mine :)

We spent hours correction the diopter knobs and the same problem prevailed. We have recently received a new pair which seem better but again there are a few problems considering the price.

A friend of mine has been using them for games and a few simulations for work which they seem better suited for, but he has dismantled them to fit more comfortably.

For FPV we both prefer using the Boscam True or new Skyzones, which have both been purpose built for the job.

Each to his own I guess.
