First Build- Picked my favorite- FT Cruiser

by DP AIR CREW | October 30, 2013 | (6) Posted in Projects

This is a shot of my cruiser displaying my twin 1450 KV motors powered by a Grayson black 40C 5000 mAh 3S battery and 40 amp speed controller. All ready for flight.

Morning of the maiden flight. Went spectacular. definitley lives up to its name, I was cruising around at 15% throttle and having a great time activating the split flaps to float at a very slow pace.

After the maiden flight I decided to prepare for the winter and make mine the SNOW CRUISER!!!. Home made skiis out of plastic but I made them removable for the days without snow, I can switch back to my traditional gear.

I also finished off the cockpit with an E-Razor canopy cut to size.

Nice skis! I may have to steal that design when the snow comes :)

No problem, I just found some plastic that i could form with my heat gun and shaped the to how I wanted. All I did after that was a coffee stirrer to slide the wire through and then stabilize with some thin gauged bailing wire. Works great on grass so far, I hope to get some nice observations after the first snow comes.

Yes, We just got a good 6"-12" at my local park. It scoots across the snow smoothy and the skis do not cause much drag at all. take offs and landing are very slow with the split flaps. I do have two pieces of advice though, either min-wax your plane or make sure it is covered well with tape, I am starting to see slight absorption of water on the exposed edges of my tail, could have been catastrophic without any covering at all. Another tip is that my skis are a smooth plastic and the hot glue only held for the first few ladings, i had to reenforce with epoxy and wire lacing where the skis attached to the gear. All in all, flies great and this plane is very docile and beautiful in the snow. I have videos but I'll be working on the you tube upload during the holidays. Thanks for checking it out.
