Designing DTFB Planes

by nerdnic | August 13, 2014 | (19) Posted in How To

I put together a video covering my design process using Photoshop CS6. Let me know what you guys think!

Here are some plans I have been working on using this process - Bucker Bu 180 | Moth Minor | Chipmunk

I plan to make articles for each of these builds once they are completed.

UPDATE 1 - September 5th 2014
I have received many requests for more detail on my design process. Because of this I will be creating a step by step set of tutorial videos that will cover the design of a plane from start to finish. I will go into all the tools and techniques used.

I will be submitting part 1 to FT as an article soon, so keep an eye out!

UPDATE 2 - September 7th 2014
I have submitted 2 parts of the series to FT as articles so they should be available soon.

This is excellent. It's the most user friendly tutorial on how to put these things together that I've seen. Five stars. Well done.

Nice, and interesting to see how other people do this. It is weird but I wrote a post to describe how I design planes, but never bothered to finish it. I wonder though if people would like to see different ways to do it? Is there some interest?

Great video! I use much the same technique in AutoCad.

Oh nice, I've never used AutoCad before. Does this technique create a 3d interactive model in AutoCad?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge in plan design. A very helpful tool for those of us that wished to create more than what can be easily found on the site. There are a few aircraft I know I would like to see in the air and the ability to create plans is a necessary tool. Great job on the article!

I love it.

And it translates so well into Sketchup for those who don't own or aren't used to Photoshop.

I'll certainly be giving it a try.

Congrats on the article. Well-deserved. This video gave me the confidence to start designing my own plans. Very straight forward design strategy and the video is easy to follow.
