When I bought my UMX Radian, I had a whole lot of extra batteries for it. The only problem was that I didn't have any Velcro small enough to work with these little 1-cells. Also, it's hard to find online and relatively expensive. I wasn't crazy about the way the battery just stays out there in the open either so I came up with a way to solve all of these problems. Oh, and it's cheap!
What you'll need:
-3M Dual Lock type 400 (I paid $5.79 USD on eBay for 20 1/2in x 1in pieces including shipping) Velcro would also work in place of the Dual Lock, but I find this works better.
-Clear packing tape (only a small piece is actually needed)
-Razor blade and/or scissors
-An old I.D. card or credit card (preferably white to match the radian)
Start by cutting the I.D. card length-wise so you end up with a strip about 3 inches long by 0.5 inches wide. It should be slightly longer than the length of the battery bay.
Next, cut a piece of the clear packing tape a few inches long by half an inch wide. Stick this to one end of the I.D. card strip and fold it around back on itself to form a small pull-tab.
Cut two pieces of the 3M Dual Lock. One 1/4 in by 1/4 in and one larger square that will fit down into the bottom of the battery bay. Stick the small square to the back of the I.D. card on the same end as the pull tab.
Next, interlock the larger square with the teeth of the smaller square and peel off the adhesive backing. Then fit the I.D. card into the battery bay (I had already fixed the larger square to the Raidan in this picture),
And then press the exposed adhesive to the foam at the rear of the battery bay. Apply firm presure for about 30 seconds to ensure a good bond before you try to pull up on the bay door.
And that's it! You now have a quick and easy way to secure your batteries that is also more attractive and aerodynamic!
Extra tips:
-With a razor blade, carefully shave off any protruding plastic tabs from the batteries. This slims the batteries and enables the bay door fit properly but is not completely necessary. (Don't puncture the battery!!)
-With a razor blade, carefully remove some of the "teeth" from the outer edges of the 3M Dual Lock on the small square that is attached to the bay door. I found that the Dual Lock strips are too strong and the adhesive not strong enough. This can result in the small square being left behind when the bay door tab is pulled.
