Catalina Scratch Build

this is my first attempt at my own design of a scratch built plane. i chose to model the catalina for this project as it is a nice looking plane and i wanted to make a duel motor design. i was not happy with the ft cruzer and the amount of power pod problems that i had. i make most my scratch builds without power pods as i fly them into the ground anyway. so i started in auto cad and figured out the aspect ratio of the plane then tried to mimic the air foil from looking at NACA air foils. i messed up a few times with the cad and was going to encorperate landing gear but messed up the cad.

after coming up with somthing i was happy with i laser cut out the parts at school. then assembled them and moddifed some things here and there. i liked the nose removable so that i can get at the battery and rest of electronics.

will be posting a video soon.

thanks

Motor mounts i made from 1/4 polycarb and then ran the wires inside. im using turnigy 35/34 1450kv motors with the 2200 3s and spinning a 8x4 prop. each motor is pulling about 25 amps.

flush mounted esc.

wooden supports

Looks awesome! Would be great if you painted it in a war paint-scheme!

Great job. I am just getting back into the hobby after about 12 years absent and it is great to see some scratch builds. I went to a local hobby shop and they told me nobody is building any more, WORNG!! I am and it's good to see others to. Keep up the good work.
