Bloody Wonder FPV OSD with GPS

A while back I did a scratchbuild of the FT Bloody Wonder. I was really happy with the performance and as usual I skipped the powerpod setup and went with a fixed motor mount, but other than that I kept pretty well to the plans.

Yesterday I started another Bloody Wonder and this is the result, let me introduce the FPV Wonder.

The small Remzibi's OSD is a really cool board and gives you quite a lot of options. With a simple configuration software you can place the bits of information that you would like to be displayed as overlay on your video stream from the plane, very similar to MinimOSD and Eagletree applications. I selected just a few pieces of information; home arrow, distance from home, speed, altitude and main battery voltage.

All information about Remzibi's OSD can be found here

To keep things clean most cables are hidden inside a little depron box behind the firewall.

The original FT Bloody Wonder has the firewall approx 10cm infront of the leading edge, to compensate for my landing gear I put my firewall only 7cm from the leading edge. With all that is going on in the front, I moved the elevator servo back a little to sit next to the vTx. The plane balances more or less perfect without battery so all that is left is to hang the battery straingt under the CG point, regardless of battery size!

This morning I went out on the maiden flight. Taking off LOS and trimming a little then back down and on with the goggles. I pushed out 850 meters and had solid video (as always with the immersionRC 600mW transmitter). I notices slight static when flying back towards myself, this is caused by the vTx placement, there is a battery, ESC and a motor in the way of the signal (I should have known better but it looked so clean to put the videotransmitter there). It is in any case not a big problem and maybe I move the transmitter maybe not.

After 5 x 2200 mAh finished and quite excactly one hour in the air this morning, I have to say that I am very happy with this little plane. It is an excellent feeling coming swooping inverted over your own head FPV.

At first I was afraid that it would be strange to fly with the camera not mounted in the center but I really did not notice. To be able to monitor altitude, speed and battery voltage directly in the goggles is fantastic. Now I just need to find bridges to fly under!!
