Here's a experiment using HK RotorBits  yaw mechanisms on a H quad 250 +/- a few mm. Not even sure what to call it? The idea was to make a fast maneuverable 250 quad for racing.

Anyway, I took 4 yaw mechanisms, using a Taranis radio, mixed in the rudder and the elevator on 4 channels on the recever. So when I push forward all 4 motors tilt forward about 15 to 20 degrees. Pulling back on the stick tilts all 4 back. The Rudder was mixed so that one side tilted forward, and the other side tilted opposite. Creating a very fast spin if desired.

I was not even sure it would work? But DID IT. Just eyeballing the tilt adjustments. It flew the first time out. I was synched.  It's fast, and will spin on a dime so fast it's just a blur. It will keep spinning with the built up inertia a few times till it slows or you give it opposite stick input. Going into a turn it will spin out in a turn if your to aggressive with the stick. That can be tuned out, but I kind of like the challenge. With some roll input while turning, it fly's like it's on rails.

The basic H frame,  10x10 mm CF arms/back bone. I have beefed up the arms with 3/16th" wood dowels wetted with water, and Gorilla glue. (The glue needs moisture to cure properly.) pushed down the inside of the CF arms. Let it set up over night. cut the ends off the dowel flush with the CF arms. This technique will make them ALMOST unbreakable.

This is just a prototype, there are bugs to work out. The biggest one is weight. with the 4 Yaw mechanisms, 4 servos, it's heavy. Not sure what it weighs? But it takes 60% of the throttle to hover. I just got a 3D printer, and I can stumble around in CAD/ and SketchUp.  So making an all in one frame will help some with the weight. But it's the 12.5 gram Corona servos the have the highest cost for weight. Also the yaw mechanisms are the biggest weak link in any Tri. Now I have 4 weak links. So far so good, I have around 15 flights with no crashes.

I would like to find away to be able to incorporate the yaw servos into the FC. So the FC has control of when, and were, they interact during the flight. The possibilities?? ? I'm sure it can be done, but I'm not the one to do it.

Here are the spec's.

Acro Naze 32 FC

4 HK 20 amp BS ESC's SimonK flashed

4 RotorBits Servo Mount/Yaw sets

2 RotorBits T connectors

5030 CF props.

RotorBits M2.5 X 6 mm countersunk screws.

4 dys BE1806/2300KV motors

Bits and bobs laying around from 330 quads to make up the platform for mounting the FC and ESC's. All zip tied to the arms and back bone of the H.

I would like any input from the community on how I can make this H quad better.

Any suggestions for a name would be cool too.  Vector4? Who knows? Hobby King may borrow the idea, and make some money on it? Just dreaming...........

Here it's starting to take shape. Note the yaw mechanisms.

Heres the bits & bobs from a 330 quad frame used for the platform for the FC and ESC's

Zip ties, a gift from the Gods.

A close up of the Yaw Mech with the motor and servo mounted.

The canapy is of course foam board.

Needed some where to tuck all the wires.

A Fr Sky 7 channel recever, sticking out the top. make sure you secure the antenies if you go this route, the props will suck them in, and shorten them quickly. Don't ask how I know?

The battery is secured around the back bone.

A short video of it flying, sorry for the poor quality of the video. It was filmed with my Iphone wedged into the crash barrer at the club field.

Here is some of the bench testing. Kidds don't do this at home. It can go badly, very quickly inside with the props on. I know, and I still have not learn my lession's.

I'll see what the weather is like this weekend. I'll put my Mobius on a 6" boom attach it to the back and see if I can get some video of the Yaw Mech's in action. Plus some better flight footage.

I like the idea of using the rotorbits. This set up looks good for making a VTOL plane as the servos could turn the props for airplane mode.

I don't know about the Naze, but with a KK2, you can add every possible motor/servo configuration you can imagine. Just plug the servos in M5-M8 and type in wich effect M5-M8 have on rudder, aileron and so on. Im pretty positive that this works on just about any flight controller, where you have control about the rates of the different channels. Would be very interesting to see what a flight controller can do with that form of maneuverabilty!
