To the FliteTest Community:

Eps 20. This episode features Part 1 of the Snow Hawk creation we have a couple of our MESA students working on. The plane was completed and was ready to try out its taxing capabilities. With it performing great on the gym floor, we expect better results on the snow. Stay tune to Part 2 of the Snow Hawk as we attempt to fly the plane. There will be plans to come out eventually for this plane, and they will be free to our viewers at

Polaris is a great plane! I would much rather see motor wires extended vs battery leads. Burned up ESC doing just that, 16ga speaker wire works just fine for the motor extensions and huge roll can be bought at any home improvement store. If battery lead extensions are your only option please look into adding capacitors, lots of info out there in forums regarding type and size required.

Excellent advice, that is exactly what we needed, stay tune for the maiden flights.

This looks like the polaris seaplane, I've built one using the free plans on rcgroups or you can buy the kit from model aero.

Great plane

Oh and I made the same mistake of extending the battery wires instead of the motor wires and sure enough about 20 flights later the ESC failed mid flight.

It is the Polaris but with a MESA twist. Noted on the wires advice for the ESC. I will let the kids know.

Use laminating film and iron it right on to the paper. I have done it and it works great and would seal things up. Nice build.

Great advice, thanks stoneblue. Do you know of a reasonable place to get that material?
Thanks again.

About 30 years ago it was the North Star balsa wood kit made by Balsa USA it was desined by a guy from Dundas Ontario Canada. I still have mine never had wheels on mine only flew off water the MESA Snow Hawk is cool and much less weight than my 13 lb North Star

Thanks for the comment, there is a ton of variations of this style plane, it was neat to at least try it. Good experience for the kiddos.
