Would I be correct in saying, that when flying at higher altitudes, or flying in more open spaces, you can back off the gain for smoother flight? Whereas, when flying in and around trees or obstacles, have the gain set higher for more control? I am having trouble with control in tight paces with the gain low or just under the threshold.

Thanks
Stephan

As a general rule yes, for higher speed less gain is needed. Having said that with a well designed machine you can still fly in tight spaces with lower gains; a throttle curve and expos help quite a bit. Take a look at my Mulitirotor Tuning video which may help.

How long does the 2200mah 3S pack last you on a flight like this? And have you ever tried those motors using 8x4.5 props?

The battery lasts for 6 minutes. I have never tried a 8x4.5 prop but I know it would be under powered with 750KV motors. 8x4.5 would suit a 1200KV motor.

Did you have two GoPro's on your tricopter the whole time?

No just one, I normally have one flight in each location with the GoPro looking down to give another point of interest.

Do you have a separate camera for FPV?

I have used the GoPro live feed and it works pretty well, but I now use a separate FPV camera with a wide dynamic range (WDR). This provides the very best exposed FPV feed and also has the advantage of maintaining the FPV link even when the GoPro battery dies!

do you use any polarized lens on your gopro? I find mine is too sensitive to light.

Hi enivid. No filter used and I have not noticed any problem with the GoPro HD or HD2 in bright light. I have always used my HD2 in its protective case, this may act as a filter to some extent. My only complaint is that the green colours often look too vibrant and unrealistic in bright light. I sometimes adjust the colours when editing to correct this.

Nice video. If your ever in the St. Ives area, would love to see some video from there. Took all my vacations as a kid there in the early 60's.
Thanks for all the tech articles, just getting into hobby, and it's a great help.
