FPV at Night

Hi Guys

A few weeks back a friend suggested I try flying my aircraft at night. I’d read about this and seen some cool videos on YouTube so I was keen to give it a go. I learnt quite a bit from undertaking this challenge;

First and foremost, fit lights. I used the Lumifly lighting system which simply plugs into your receiver. It’s really easy!

Secondly, use an OSD. It’s hard enough during the day to work out where you are and I can assure you it’s even more difficult at night.

Thirdly, get your FPV goggles on ASAP! Trying to fly your aircraft by line of sight even with a lighting system is night impossible if not downright dangerous.

Finally, make sure you have a well-lit landing area. Pinch your neighbor’s garden lights if you have to. Just joking Wilma. I got lucky and landed in some tall grass.

Anyway I hope you enjoy.

Take care up there.

Another thing to keep in mind when planning a night flight is to know the area. Fly it in the daylight so you know what the area looks like. It can be very helpful

I assume your last comment about well-lit landing area is based on your landing on this video? What might work well is if you get some strobes for your landing strip.. There are some really great bright strobes for bikes which if you got like two of them (for orientation) you would be able to see your landing zone more easily and get lined up better.

I have one of these for bike riding at night and I think it woudl be perfect.. super bright: http://amzn.com/B00435IPFK also runs off just some AAA batteries for 50 hours.
