Charge Rates and Parallel Charging

Charging batteries is always time consuming.

Not when you have got parallel charging!!


To parallel charge you will need a parallel harness for your lipo's. If you need to make you simply connect all the +'s to the +'s and the -'s to the -'s and that it!

This does not change the voltage of the battery but in fact the mah only increases.

for example:

charge 3 500mah 2 cells

this according to the charger is a 1500mah 2s

Thats it.


Charge rates.

This is easy if you know what 2c charge rate is or 5c or 10c ect.

To find out in amps all you do is

times the mah by the amount of c charge rate.


eg. 2200 3s with a 3c charge rate is charged at a max of 6.6amps (2200x3=6600=6.6A on the charger)

Be careful parallel charging.
The charge current will NOT necessarily be split evenly, so allow for that when picking a parallel charge current.
Also a dud lipo could cause the full charge to go to the other good lipo.

Allow for the worst & you'll allways be OK.

What if one lipo was less charged that the other ? What happens when you plug them together ? Won't there be an inrush of current that could quite possibly exceed the C rating of the more charged lipo ?

Yes- I try to parallel charge batteries that are within .2 of a volt for this reason.
The traces on my board will burn if there is too much of a difference.
It takes some sorting before charging so it's rare that I charge more than three or 4 batteries together at one time.
