Blind landing!

Under the hood from takeoff to landing!

Filming a Popwing(900mm) maiden flight from an A.X.N.
A lose wire or (more likely)water on my Vtx antenna cause a lack of vision, forcing me to land prematurely.

I did not whip off my goggles,as I wear glasses and could not have seen it anyway...

With a stock motor and a 30 amp esc. 6/4 prop
We are flying a 9X radio with the frsky diy mod.
Video RX: Boscam RC305 5.8GHz with Helical Antenna
Video RX: Boscam RC305 5.8GHz with Skew planar wheel antenna
Video TX: Boscam 200mw 5.8 GHz with Cloverleaf Antenna
3 lobe cloverleaf on the bird and a 7 turn helical and skew planar wheel antenna on the ground

Just like your namesake, landing a plane blind....of course he could have done so all whilst giving chuck norris a proper smack down. Try making a radome out of a ping pong ball to cover tx antenna. water build up will still attenuate signal some but in my case it has mitigated all out video failure such as yours.

Good tip with the ping pong radome ,lonewolf!I guess plastidip ain't gonna cut it.
Nice to know you like Mr Katsu's work com padre. I'll let you know how I fare with the radome.

Yeah I would try to keep away from the plastidip for several reasons that are a bit to lengthy to lay out right now. Trust me I speak the truth. Would rather see a bare DIY antenna, ugly solder joints and all (at least in my case) lol.

I think I have only taken that antenna out to 8 or 900m since we dipped it. Luckily it worked just fine. Do you see a problem using it close range? What about lacquer for sealing?
