808 #16 V2 D Lens Keychain Camera Full Review For FPV

I have been asked how I have been recording my on board flight footage so i wanted to do a video to talk about what I have been using for the past year as well as something new I just got in. I have been using two modded 808 #16 Keychain cameras I got from digitaleleonline-caipeng off ebay. I recently saw they had a new updated version and was interested to check it out. I got the new camera in hand in under two weeks from placing my order. In this video I will talk about my original cameras as well as a nice review of the brand new V2 D lens option that also gives you a way to use it as an fpv camera while recording in flight footage.

Some details about the camera:
808 #16V2 Keychian Micro Camera has added TV output (video only)
They also offer different lens options and other accessories separately, please check there ebay store.

My camera came with the D lens a 120 degrees view. You will find more information about this lens option on Tom Frank's #16 thread.

Here is a link to buy the new V2 Camera.

 What's special about 808 #16 V2 camera?

 1. A connector  added for the internal battery, making it changeable by users who don't like soldering. You don't have to throw your camera away when the battery dies.  You just need a new battery and change it!

    2. A connector  added to the lens/sensor module, make it possible to replace or upgrade it when new module's are available.

    3. New Lens and totally new circuit board design. You will see below improvements in video:

- Overall  sharpness: improved
- White  balance control / color shifting issue: improved
 - Saturation  / and contrast boost issue: colors look much more natural now
- Darker  corner/edge vignetting issue: improved

    4. Low battery buzzing artifact in video -Gone!

    5. You only need one Standard USB Data cable for charging and data exchange with your computer.

    6. It supports audio volume control, and you can even get it mute to save battery and helps to increase the recording time when the audio is not needed, it can be set  by TXT config tool.

    7. It supports optional Loop Recording, it can be set by TXT config tool.

    8. You can set the date and time (white much smaller on the lower left corner), and toggle the date/time stamp on or off, by TXT config tool.

    9. If you don't want 720P recording to save battery and memory card capacity,  now you can toggle video output frame size from 1280x720 30fps (default), to  848x480 30fps, or 640x480 30fps.

    10. AVI output: we also have another firmware option available which will output .AVI file format, using the same H.264 codec, and it offers seamless  recording (there is no lost video between clips). If you need it, please  send a message to us, and we will send it to you by email.

I was flying and recording on an over cast day so yes it will be fine. Read my description i have a link to get into the settings from another guy that did a review on this item with an older version but it all works the same.

I have used it for FPV practice and it is good if you don't want to damage an expensive camera when learning. There are quite a few FPV videos filmed with 808 #16 v2 Lens D, both video out 640x480 and 720p DVR. The easiest way to change settings is to download the free software shown here: http://dronemission.com/review-KeychainCamera16.htm

Thanks for the review, it motivated me to buy my first camera. Only have a 2GB micro so I popped that in to play with it. One question: what recording time could I expect with a fully charged battery and a 32GB memory card?

I have been happy with mine. Did some flying and recording with it just the other day. Ok as for recording time if your just running off the internal battery you won't get more than an hour and that is is you shut most of the lights and audio off. Normally your looking at 45 minutes max. I use 8gb cards and they are never full so 32 is a bit big but not hurting anything just more to loose if you crash. Also tape over the micro sd slot it can pop out on a hard hit. Enjoy it and glad this review was a help.

Good article. I have a video at my youtube channel that shows how my 808 is wired up to my quad for recording and fpv. Look up "FPVav8tr" at Youtube. I would NOT use the onboard battery for sole power. I hook in a 5v ubec to power the 808 from the main battery. Don't trust that teenie weenie 808 battery with your quad.

Great review!! I just purchased one, and would like to know how to secure the D lens' focus, since it seems to be loose. Thanks again

Put a small amount of goop or epoxy on the mount if you have that issue. Set focus first then lock it down.

I agree not a good idea to only run the battery. ubec is best.

Can you guys suggest a good (small) 5v ubec to power my #16 V2? Have either of you experienced the power cutoff while recording and using video out for FPV that is discussed on FPVLabs(i think)? They say in those discussions that they don't experience it when just using the 808 for FPV video but while both recording and FPVing. Thanks!

Awesome, thanks. I just read that the VTX i am waiting on may have a 5v output that i can try hooking to the camera. I'll give that a go and see what happens. Oh and i actually have a second #16 with crash damage. maybe I'll crack it open and see if its something simple. Thanks again!
