Swappable Trainer Flight

by smit6089 | March 1, 2013 | (14) Posted in Just Fun

After over a month and a half of designing, redesigning, scrapping and starting over, I finally have all the build plans complete for a swappalbe trainer. It features a steerable tail wheel, interchangeable wings to make it a 4 channel or a 3 channel and a small internal servo spacer that allows for small differences in all of our power pods.

I'm working on the build videos and instuctions as I'm posting this and I'm doing my best to have all three build videos (plane and each wing) available by this coming weekend and will link them here when they're done.

For now, here is a poorly shot flight video of the swappale trainer running a 28gram motor on a 2200 3S with a 8x5 MA Prop.

Please comment, share, and let me know what you think.

Also, I know others have built very similar planes and designs in the last month or so and I hope they in no way see this as punch at their designs. I think they are all great!!!

Just finished building my version of your trainer, I settled for the simple 3 channel, no ailerons to start with, have the plans ready for the 'other' wing should I decide to upgrade. The build was quite straight forward, but have to admit it doesn't look quite as tidy as yours. I fitted my small 3 channel receiver just aft of the servos in the tail of the fuselage, which has given me a nice CoG. I used a motor/prop combination I happened to have in the drawer, a Turnigy D2826-6 2200kv Outrunner Motor with a 7x4 prop running a 2 cell LiPo. Now to fly it as soon as this darned wind drops. Thank you for the plans and the build video, which were a great help.
