The FT Cruiser Twin Engine Swappable is the 9th foam board scratch build airplane available in our swappable series!

The FT Cruiser is a direct result of your input! The Cruiser project started when we received many requests to build a Twin swappable.  The FT Cruiser was inspired by the D.H.88 Comet introduced in 1934.

This is the first scratch build to feature nacelles where the power pods are held.

We'll have build video and plans for this airplane this week and in the meantime it's also available in our store as a speed build kit.

The FT Cruiser also features an additional FPV swappable nose pod. It's a swappable swappable!

We currently have a special going on where the first 200 Speed Build Kits ordered from our store will include the FPV pod and a Split Flaps Kit! CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE!

Here's a better look at the nacelles and bottom side of this scratch build.

The unique design on the wings also seem to help the plane's flying characteristics. We didn't have any issues with tip stalling during our flights.

David setup the plane with differential thrust which gave this foam board flyer a "crazy mode".

Josh flew it for the FT Cruiser for the first time and handled it great flying FPV.

The FPV video from the plane was very smooth despite the windy flying conditions we typically have.

The decals on this FT Cruiser are also available in our web store!  Be sure to take a look at those as well!

This plane has such a great look in the sky.

The build video will be coming soon! Stay tuned for that!

We've got more PHOTOS in the forum post. Click the "Join the Discussion" link below to check them out!

It is your choice, just reverse a motor. I have had counter rotating props for weeks waiting on this thing.

Yah, but will the plane still work with regular props? just might have to counter with aileron or rudder?

Awesome work guys! You have really stepped up your game with this and the FT 3D. I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Nice plane. You guys at flite test should really think about adding speed build kits for your other swappable planes. Also, hurry up on the tricopter parts, I am waiting for the camera tray and am getting impatient.

Amazing. Genius with the undercamber at the tip. I have a couple electric retracts sitting in a bin... maybe I'll have a use for them! I think I need to make a RealFlight version of this one. I have a feeling it will be popular.

I have some(stupid) questions..
Can I use my 24g motors from my other swappable's?
can some one maybe show me how I can setup my 9xr to mix the motors with rudder?

This looks like an awesome plane. I would love to buy the swappable kit, but to South Africa shipping really issnt worth it. I would rather just donate for the plans..

You can probably use your 24g motors but it will have a hard time getting of the ground i think.

Just bought my kit have a few questions. Only using one battery for this kit how do I run both esc's to the one receiver also what kind of battery connector do I need to power both esc's this is stuff that should be put in the electronics needed section right? Or am I completely wrong and I need 2 batteries for both power pods and a y harness to the receiver

I use Minwax Polyurethane varnish, have been for about 10 years. I tried the water base varnish, but it made the papaer turn loose. Polyurethane varnish will not eat up foam of any kind. Do always try on a scrap peace first.

Hi: Could you tinker with the design of the delta and make it look like an Avro arrow cf 105. Just a thought because I am an arrowhead.

Nicely done, Josh Scott, on flying the Cruiser....and FPV! Nice job buddy! I surely don't have anything against Chad flying something nor Josh Bixler flying something, but it was just good to see Josh Scott flying something for us. This is just an awesome looking plane. I'm hoping to get things sorted better here so that I can get my kit ordered. Thanks Flitetest for all that you've done and all that you continue to do.

I thought the antenna did not work as well upside down? Does it make any difference?

Can't keep up with so many cool builds !
Thank you so much, what a great show and what a great hobby! Still waiting for good weather to enjoy my blender again, and preparing the 3D plans, now I have to make room for this one! You are going too fast launching new swappables! Slow down please!!😜
And of course I see it coming, the spitfire, a trainer, and surely you will soon jump into a swappable ducted fan, right?...

I think a swappable dlg would be awesome. obviously it wouldn't be very high performance, but it would be nice to have a $5 plane on which to practice launches rather than breaking a $300 dlg.

I think I'll try spraying mine with water based polyurethane to see if it helps with the moisture issue.

I tried the water base varnish, but all it did was make the paper turn loose. I use the regular Minwax Polyurethane varnish. It will not eat up the foam.

I bet there is a colored coating that will cause the paper to stick better but I haven't found it . I paint mine with light coats of Krylon short cuts from craft stores. I used to use Krylon H2O water based on plain foam (stryker) but it got heavy if I got carried away. I got up early to see the new plans --nothing wah! wah!

With the differential thrust, does it make turning the plane one way or the other easier? This will be the next plane to add to my fleet.

1 - Liveyourdreamsrc - yes you need a HAM Radio license
2 - Johan - I'd say use the recommended motors, but the 24 grams should work
3 - StndbyHD - You'll use one battery and a harness between ESCs (totally guessing here as JB may have done something completely different
4 - Iracnolip - Antenna will work great upside down
5 - gouldie86 - plans and build video on Wednesday! :)

Outstanding episode! Loved the history and the design considertion tips (sorry Josh S. - some of us like it. Also, great flying man!). Definitely adding this one to the fleet. Beautiful design - can't wait to try this one out.

Yes! I also love the history lessons, I suppose Josh B. was referring to the de Havilland DH88. There was another famous Comet, in this case the DH106, the first commercial jet liner... Maybe a candidate for a future scratch build EDF?

Best advice ! Make templates and practice folds on them till you get one you like and save the originals for later, I think the Bix didn't get it the first try.

Have ordered 6 here in the UK - will build one and sell 5! - £50.00 including 24hr shipping once they arrive (ordered on 17th April) so not log now! thats a saving of nearly £15 if you buy one direct from FT in the US.

Great Work FT Team!

I finished mine and have flown it several times ... it's a ball to fly. My battery seems to be somewhat further back than might be indicated by the battery tray. It's well up onto the wing to get the CG correct. I'd like to suggest several modifications. I fly on a rougher field and the landing gear holes in the power pods stripped out. It would be a good idea to strengthen this area with a short piece of a skewer. Same thing for the elevator ... that tiny piece of foam that goes through the rudder is easily broken. Another short piece of skewer across the piece that pokes into the two halves strengthens it immensely.

I would love to see a short video on making the canopy out of a soda bottle. Every time I try it looks awful!

Great work, guys!!

I always wanted a cruising plane because sometimes I want to take it slow and that is what this plane is now :) thanks
