Building Ribbed Foam Board Wings

I'm back again to share what I know. I'm showing how to use your foam board work to make a more traditional model wing. This style can have a more scale-like appearance for WWI era models and give a more vintage look to old-time plans. I hope this gives encouragment to do more BUILDING!

I dont know if its worth the effort? I'm sure a folded wing will be stronger and about the same weight.

I'm really lookimg into making a swapable glider, making a folded wing vs a buildup wing?
Maybe...

I think you will find that this method will build lighter as there is much less paper which is very heavy. However, the primary reason I would chose this method over another is for the more scale look. For example, using this method on a baby blender will give it more of a clipped-wing SE5a look. You can substitute many different materials for the spar. Wood, carbon fiber arrow shafts, coroplast... its really what you can get you mitts on.

Nice tutorial. The poster laminate can also be airbrushed. It may not hold up to a huge beating, but painted foam isn't that resilient, either.

Too true! I should have mentioned that you can pretty much paint with anything you like after its covered. I personally use household latex paint. Make sure its is clean first. Basic windex treatment is fine.
