Make a Cheap C.G. Stand

You will need:

  • (1) 3/4" x 8' piece of PVC pipe, cut into the following pieces;
  1. 12" x 2
  2. 8" x 2
  3. 6" x6
  • (6) 3/4" PVC L-joints
  • (2) 3/4" PVC T-joints
  • (2) 4 1/2" x 1/4" rounded top steel bolts
  • (4) nuts
  • (4) washers

Use both 12" sections, four 6" sections, two T-joints, and four L-joints to make the base, as shown below.

Drill holes through both ends of each 8" piece, just big enough for the bolts to fit thru.

Insert the bolts and use a ruler to make sure they are even, before tightening them down, as shown below.

Use the remaining 6" sections, and the last two L-joints to make the arms.

Attach the arms to the base, and you're all set!

The arms can also be swung in or out, to fit several differently sized and shaped planes.

I have used this same technique for my plane transport racks and work stands. I never thought to use it for a CG stand, good work.

Great, inexpensive CG stand. Works very well.

Just be sure and sand the pipe ends and joints BEFORE you do your test fit - those things are snug even with just a test fit!

Great idea, just shows you that sometimes simplest is best! Use no glue and it would be altermitaely portable!
