The FT Versa Wing, the most versatile speed build swappable airplane that we've ever made!  We've designed the FT Versa Wing because of the requests and comments from Flite Test viewers! We wanted to design an airplane that could be used with the swappable series power pods, but could also be modified to be much more!Whether it's a trainer, an FPV flyer or combat plane that you're looking to create, the FT Versa Wing can be that!Along with our latest swappable airframe design, we are also introducing the first of many components in our new FT Elements Series, Simple Firewall. The FT Elements Simple Firewall is a 3/32nd inch plywood kit that allows you to transform your wing into a pusher. It's currently available in the store, and the first 250 FT Versa Wings sold recieve one free! The wing is a lot of fun to fly in any configuration that you decide to create. The speed build design allows you to mount your pushrods on the top or the bottom.Markers on the bottom of the wing help you to set up balance. The FT Versa Wing makes a great FPV flyer and the sturdy wing design allows it to hold all sorts of components. When we're all flying, we somehow manage to turn these things into combat flyers, and despite a few hits and crashes the wings still fly great! As always a free build video and plans are available HERE

The FT Versa Wing and Elements Firewall are available in our store along with many new products. CLICK HERE to check them out!

Why not turn a pod upside down then inlet it into the rear of the wing like we do the fuse on the baby blender with a little mod for aerodynamics ,been thinking of this for highwing like the bixler.

Would you guys be able to design a wing to have the power pod on the top facing the rear so it's a pusher, but still sticking with the traditional power pod???

When will the build plans and video be available? I hope it is soon because I sure do want to build the FT Versa Wing. Great video on the FT Versa Wing. I've already watched it twice.
Thanks again Josh and Josh and the entire FT team.

Awesome! I can't wait to see the scratch build video for this. I just build my first wing almost 2 weeks ago and this is perfect timing for a build from you guys I was waiting for. It looks very similar to what I just built even though I still have to put my winglets on still and cut rear section out for the prop/motor. Great build Flitetest!

This is my next build, maybe the next two.
Thanks FliteTest team!

After seeing the video I was doubt about correct way to install a propeller on a pusher. Joshua says that numbers should be always forward. Foward motor or plane?
On a pusher I always use them backwards (numbers forward plane) if they are normal rotation.
I use them normal way, numbers backwards plane, if they are counter rotation.
It´s that right?

The numbers always face forward of the movement of the plane.

My Versa is nosediving on takeoff. I "think" the thrust line is neutral and the CG seems ok. What am I probably doing wrong?

P.S. I did the pusher variation.

My question is if this can be used with NO motor and strictly a Slope Soarer, Here where i live there are plenty of places to slope soar, but none to fly motor driven planes that are bigger than a basketball court. I'd really like to see a slope soarer and i was thinking that maybe this could be it?

i made a glider version with all the electronics in bedded in the wing with no power pod, i have towed it and sloped it, it glides really well just keep it light

I have a question: Would it be completely ridiculous to take a platform like the FT Versa and add water floats to it? I have a Super Cub that I really enjoy flying at my parent's lake and I'm not sure if it's even possible to make a wing take off and land on water. Would the physics even work due to the short air frame? Any ideas?

Anyway, great video. I'll probably build a Versa when we get closer to spring and I'm looking forward to getting it in the air. THANKS!!

I was watching another Flite Test Video where it had the VersaWing - The Kraken, I didn't get to hear where that was made from, can you give me more details on that.

This design in particular has been my stable back up. When the wind is too high or I crash one of the others the versa is always there waiting to launch. It can take a beating and really just keep going. I put a couple stripes of colored tape on top to help maintain orientation. Mine is a pusher, but I built a small pod underneath to protect the underslung battery. The typical pusher nose forward tendency is the a little. I set my cg about a quarter of an inch aft of stock. It seems to be a really nice stable flyer there. The stall characteristics are normal. If you coax a stall it will tend to waggle a bit and then fall off. Kinda like an aircraft that lost its rudder. Super great performer. From aerobatics to light slope soaring it has the ability to do it all.

I Just built the Versa Wing and on the free-download-able plans there is both the firewall for the standard Power Pod and also the Elements type for the pusher.

I am completely new to rc flying, and I really like this plane. Is it too much to start with? What type of transmitter do I need, channels etc. Thanks in advance.

I believe Josh goes over all that in the build video here: http://flitetest.com/articles/ft-versa-wing-build but if not... This plane only has Elevons as flight controls, so you'd need a transmitter radio capable of mixing Ailerons with Elevator (Elevons). The Spektrum DX6 for around $170 does all that. It's a stable plane, and nice with a lower powered motor so's not to get into a lot of trouble, but it's not a "learner" or "trainer". That said, if you've spent a lot of time on a simulator, or are a gamer-type, then maybe you could do alright. Best thing probably would be to go with slapping the FT Flyer together in a couple hours from start to finish, get good at flying that, then see about building the Versa wing. If you're truly new, then flying the FT flyer or the Nutball won't bore you! Good luck

Ah, just did some checking with my radios: My Spektrum DX5E has Elevon mixing, and it's a bit cheaper at $89 from Hobbyzone. If you buy the Spektrum series Transmitter, then you can get the el cheapo receivers for $12 bucks along with all the other electronic guts from Lazertoyz... who's add/link is on the right of this page!

Just did a few more tweaks to the versa. Trimmed for hands free power off flight just netted me 38 minutes off the ground. There are no really great slope areas near me so I just used the motor to jump to altitude and then practice a bit of thermal soaring. I run a 2200 mah battery in it. The penetration for soaring is fantastic. The versa was my third flite test build. It has been around for almost a month of flying 4-5 days a week at 3-4 batteries a shot. This design is one of my favorites. Might not be the best for the absolute beginner, but once you are even the slightest bit comfortable in the air this design will prove very capable.

My 11y/o son spiked our Versa on Saturday. Hot glued the wings back together. This afternoon I hot glued the firewall back on the pod. Flies better than when we first built it

I just want to say that the ft versa wing is an excellent flying wing. I bought a speed build kit to start but have had a lot of fun building them in different variations and colors. I have also done the blunt nose versions. They are excellent fliers also.
