060 DJI Interview w/Eric Cheng

by FliteTest | January 30, 2015 | (12) Posted in Podcasts

We decided is was definitely time to have an interview with someone from DJI!  We recently released our very first review of a DJI product, the Inspire 1. Also with the very recent press release from DJI regarding the flying restriction of sesitive areas such as Washington DC, expanded airport protection etc, we thought this would be a perfect time to have someone from DJI on the show.

We want to give a big thanks to Eric Cheng for spending over an hour chatting with us. Eric is the Director of Aerial Imaging and is the General Manager of the DJI San Francisco office.

Excellent podcast. Here in the UK, I took the first of many subsequent steps back into the hobby last year with a DJI Phantom 1.1, which was all I thought I could afford, and I really love it. It's nice to have a more human voice at DJI, thanks Mr Cheng: I had previously felt their company to be rather cold, for some reason. One question... too late I suppose... after essentially styling their products to be the Apple of aerial photography why can't we have proper assistant software for our iMacs ??? I keep having to use an old Windows laptop, grrr!

Why can't I pause the podcast anymore? I listen and once I hit the pause button and then hit play to start where I left off it goes for maybe a second and then stops. Also I can't seem to seek ahead either to get back where I left off...Guess I may have to try an app instead of streaming on the web.

Great perspectives on the aerial photography side of things. I also found this article at around the same time I heard this podcast, and found it interesting. Perhaps you guys might want to interview them as well, as they are in Ohio too!

You guys mentioned getting into the RC hobby by proxy, and i hadn't noticed that that is what i did until now. I needed a Transmitter for a school project, and i ended up getting batteries and a transmitter and chargers and all that, and then for another project, i decided i wanted to build a mutlirotor. I started doing some research and found David, and through David, i found Flite Test.
