051 An Epic Flite Test Update!

by FliteTest | November 19, 2014 | (23) Posted in Podcasts

Josh, Austin, Alex and Peter give an insider look at some extremely exciting things that are coming up for Flite Test. We also try something brand new... a video version of the podcast! This has been much requested and we think we may consider doing a video companion podcast once per month depending on how it is recieved. So if you like it, be sure to leave a comment and make your opinion known!!

Best lines "Don't ever put a quad rotor into your wife's hair". "If you wife is in the room, don't ever put anything electronic in the air because it will attach her"

I put the video on and the opened up some other tabs to read, just like Alex said, but I really liked being able to switch back and seeing the guys' faces during some of the segments. If it's not too much work, I love it.

I like the video version. As far as the young man with a cost concern - maybe you guys could sell just the full size plans - no printing and pasting and maybe getting things out of alignment - just cut paper and then get and cut foam board. Also maybe you guys could try some corragated cardboard models so a young person would only have to buy the plans - some did that back in the 60's or 70's. A person still needs a transmitter and receiver but HobbyPartz has a 'combo' for $24.66 -
Dynam Brushless motor+18A ESC+3pcs 9g servos for RC Park Flyer
http://www.hobbypartz.com/60p-dy-1006.html
Anyway - good job - keep working on getting young people into the hobby ( and the learning )
later - art

Love the video podcast. I did notice most of you have your headphones on backwards. Josh has the left ear piece on his right ear. Peter has the right ear piece on his left ear, etc. Is there a reason for that? Just curious.

I'm 62 years young and have been flying R/C for over 40 years. Love what you all are doing and watch every episode. Keep up the great work.

I like the video pod cast. Maybe it would be better if the participants were arranged in a semicircle facing the cameras (no back of head shots) plus better view of expressions and easier for camera positioning. In many ways FT takes the place of an RC club ,trading information ,laughing at failures and forming friendships.

I have a "Will it fly"...

Spike's "Swordfish" (from Cowboy Bebop). It has really thin wings, tail heavy with EDF in the back, and the only thing to counterbalance is the cannon on the front.

I really enjoyed the video addition to the podcast! I watched it on my computer, but now I'm curious if it will play the video on my ipod as well. It was great seeing the behind the scenes action that was always going on, but we couldn't view. Thanks guys!

I must say, the video does add to the podcast.
Although I recognize what one of you guys mentioned in the beginning ("I usually switch to another browser window and just listen to the sound"), this setup grabbed my attention more than just listening.
And when you mentioned FT Extra, I jumped in my chair.
A few days ago Josh casually mentioned "We will attempt another speed record, that attempt will not be on the main show, but might show up on FT Extra".
I started googling, thinking what is this "FT extra" thing I'm missing?
That is all clear now, more good to come.
Loved the episode, keep up the good work !
And thanks so much!!

Personally, I was not wild about this podcast. Also, I find myself worrying about you guys... things aren't getting out of control are they??? There is such a thing as trying to do TOO much. I joined your supporters just after you launched the Beginner's Series, which was really very good. However, for me, when things get silly... I just don't find it interesting. I suppose you'll hate this but there is the whole "contains within itself the seeds of its own destruction" idea. I really DON'T want to see that happen to you wonderful people.

Really looking forward to the possibility of relatively cheap foamboard!
I'm in Australia and I've got a bunch of motors and ESC's hanging around because of quadcopters... I decided to try a plane, thinking the most expensive part would be the servos. Turns out it'd cost ~$80 for 5x (500x700x8mm) sheets! And I've heard the brand available here is too heavy for aircraft use anyway!

A question for the next podcast, or for the show, or just the site: what's the likely ETA on that making it to the store?

PLEASE ADD THE LINK TO THE VIDEO LINK. Josh referred to a video of a father & son build video in a language other than english. Thanks. :)

If you don't have the ability to fallow threw with your commitments try getting a bigger crew. Burning your community just once, you have to make them happy three times over to repair the damage done to your brand.
Maybe you should hire someone to run the FT business and website while the FT guys make more videos.
